Title: perspectives surrounding green hydrogen in the Richtersveld local municipality.

The following study aims at understanding the different perspectives people have surrounding green hydrogen in the Richtersveld local municipality. This area is beneficially located for green hydrogen due to it being near the west coast where it can be used in the process of desalination and holds the possibility for a deep harbour due to the deepness of the ocean in that area. Furthermore, this area receives optimal sun radiation for the generation of solar power. However, the people in the Richtersveld local municipality have just won their land back in a lengthy struggle against Alexcor, which is state-owned diamond company. Now, the government is asking for 60000 hectares from the CPA to rent to the Germans for a lease period of 60 years for this green hydrogen project. The community however sees no clear economic benefit or ownership rights which has led to rather divided community. I intend on interviewing members of the Richtersveld Community Property Associations, Namakwa District municipality, different activist groups, the ward councillor and community organisations, all in order to understand the different perspectives surrounding green hydrogen in the Richtersveld local municipality.
