Robert Smith is a PhD student under the SARChI Chair on the Sociology of Land, Environment and Sustainable Development. His research analyses sociotechnical imaginaries of energy transitions, and establishes a ‘green hydrogen assemblage’ as a case-study to explore the plurality of justice in South Africa’s just energy transition. His focus is on making visible the political production of green hydrogen, and the visions of a climate resilient future that are reflected in the financing, regulatory practices, policy development, and discursive framings that together are assembled to address the energy transition.
